From Faith Lutheran School Headmaster Rev. Stephen W. Kieser – July 31, 2020:

The Faith Lutheran School faculty and staff have been meeting regularly to discuss how to implement the general guidance given to us by school leadership.  I thank God for the countless people who have labored hundreds of hours in order to make the 2020-2021 school year the best year of classical Lutheran education in our school’s 50-year history.  Jesus is near to us in His Word.  In Jesus, I have every confidence that you, your children, pastors, faculty, and staff will be immensely and richly blessed.

I am ready to get started with the task before us:  the task of instructing children in the Word of God that they might be of service to the church, their family, and society.

Parent Choice:  The date for parents to designate full-time (in-person, remote, or hybrid) OR part-time (in-person, remote, or hybrid) to begin the school year is Saturday, August 1.  If you are visiting this page after August 1, please contact the school office.

From Faith Lutheran School Headmaster Rev. Stephen W. Kieser – July 24, 2020:

The faculty, staff and I are eagerly preparing for Faith Lutheran School’s 50th academic year.  In 1971, Faith Lutheran School began the task of partnering with families for the sake of raising up generations of Christian children who are daily instructed in the Word of God and those things that are good for church and society.  While some things have changed, the pursuit of a Christian education has remained our foundation.  Let us give thanks to our Lord, Jesus Christ, for His presence with us these 50 years and His steadfast love that has never failed.

On July 17, 2020, the Texas Attorney General issued a statement clarifying that our classical Lutheran school may operate on campus/in person and/or remote per the order of the Governor of Texas regardless of local orders. I agree with the voices out there that lift up the many educational benefits of being together in person.  I am also thankful for the opportunity to partner together with families who prefer remote education in these uncertain times or who are not able to be present.

Introduction to FLS 2020-2021 Plan:
A vast amount of work that has been put into planning for a safe and successful school year.  Since reliable information changes often, our plans must be flexible.   Protocols in place on August 12, 2020, may or may not be the same ones with which we end the school year.  Our partnership together this school year acknowledges that things may or may not change.

Parent Choice:  Parents will choose in person/on campus OR remote OR hybrid.  The target date for parents to designate how they wish to begin the school year is August 1.  Flexibility to change your preference is allowed.  The hybrid option means that some instruction will occur in person/on campus while the remaining instruction will occur remotely.

REMOTE LEARNING

IN PERSON/ON CAMPUS LEARNING:

Every effort is being made to arrange classrooms and other learning environments to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person OR shield barriers so that face covers may be optional in those locations.   Families will provide their children with a face covering (solid colors or transparent only) for use at school.   A limited supply of single-use and reusable coverings will also be provided at school.

COVID-19 Response Plan: This plan outlines how Faith Lutheran School will respond to a confirmed or potential positive COVID-19 infection.

Conclusion:  I know this is a lot of information and yet you may have additional questions or require clarification.  The school understands that flexibility is important since things may change to all or parts of the plan. The Board of Christian Education, pastors, faculty and staff are working tirelessly to make good decisions and communicate those decisions as articulately and as soon as possible.

With Christ as near to us as His Word, I remain confident that this is going to be a great 50th year of education at Faith Lutheran School of Plano.

In Christ,
Rev. Stephen W. Kieser, Headmaster / Associate Pastor
