Religion – Northwestern Publishing – Christ Light – ESV Bible

  1. Chronological presentation of Biblical accounts with the golden thread of Christ our Savior woven throughout
  2. Scripture memory verses twice weekly
  3. Daily school-wide opening devotions with scripture reading, hymns, and prayers
  4. Daily prayer families
  5. Chapel worship weekly
  6. Praise/hymn sing weekly

Reading – Memoria Press

  1. Class novels
  2. SSR (silent sustained reading) daily
  3. Phonics-based approach to reading
  4. Strong emphasis on word attack and comprehension skills
  5. Book reports/chapter summaries

Language – Shurley Method

  1. Strong emphasis on grammar, sentence structure, and classifying parts of speech
  2. Sentence mechanics
  3. Writing skills including two-point expository, descriptive, narrative, and time order paragraphs, thank you notes, and friendly letters

Spelling – Spalding

  1. Weekly lists / tests
  2. Weekly sentences / dictation
  3. Oral / written review of 70 phonograms

Math – Saxon

  1. Addition, subtraction, and some multiplication facts memorized
  2. Daily timed tests of math facts
  3. Math concepts are taught through active participation, math manipulatives, board work, graphing of data, tiles, geo boards, flash cards, calendars, thermometers
  4. Word problems and key words are practiced daily
  5. Students learn time, money, measurement
  6. Counting well into the hundreds by 1’s, 2’s…5’s, 10’s and so on
  7. Concepts continually reviewed throughout year
  8. Promotes readiness for algebra and geometry

Science – Bob Jones

  1. Students learn about life, physical, earth, and health sciences
  2. God’s Word is integrated into every science topic
  3. Students learn to observe, manipulate, and explore the world around them
  4. Experiments and field trips are used to support and enrich their learning experiences
  5. Life applications are made from their scientific discoveries

Handwriting – Spalding

  1. Manuscript (capitals / lower case)
  2. Punctuation marks and numbers
  3. Emphasis on legibility in all subjects
  4. Cursive instruction (capitals / lower case)

History – Veritas

  1. Major goals:  Develop a knowledge of God, encourage Christian growth, promote historic and geographical literacy through the study of the old testament and ancient Egypt
  2. Process skills:  Sequencing of events, summarizing data, making predictions, working with time lines, maps, globes, tables, graphs, charts, and diagrams
