In the classroom at FLS — news from 5th grade:
THE 5TH GRADE ADDRESS (with Apologies to Abraham Lincoln) Two score and ten years ago, our charter members brought forth on this land, a new school, conceived in faith, and dedicated to the proposition that all our children should receive a Christian education.
Now we are engaged with a great pandemic, testing whether that school, or any school so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We have met both online and in-person. We have come to dedicate our time to studying the Small Catechism, math, literature, poetry, history, science, English, and Latin. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we are not merely reading books-we are not merely writing papers-we are not merely solving arithmetic problems. The Word of God, living and active, is doing its good work in us each day. The world will little note, nor long remember what we do here, but it can never give what we receive here. It is for us, the 5th Grade class, to be dedicated here to that education that the Lord has moved the members of Faith Lutheran to so nobly advance. It is good for us to be here, dedicated to the great task remaining before us- that through the mercy of the Lord, we may be well prepared to serve in the Church and world- that we may hear daily of Christ’s love and forgiveness for us- that we may grow in faith toward God and love toward others, and we pray that schools of the Church, by the Church, for the Church shall not perish from the earth.
Ms. Newton and the students in 5th Grade wish to thank our members for your continued support of classical Lutheran education here at Faith! We are having a great school year and are learning much!
