From the FLS Headmaster: 5/13/2020

He is risen! “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 ESV

The 2019-2020 school year will soon conclude under Learn From Home. As this school year winds down, it is also true that the 2020-2021 school year is ramping up. I know that you, like me, have already asked the question: what will next school year be like?

Here is my very certain – without a doubt – 100% confident answer: I don’t know AND Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

What are some things I don’t I know about next school year?

The state of COVID-19 over the next 12 months in the United States, Texas, and our immediate community.

The state of my own health, your health, and others in regard to COVID-19. Not to mention the vast number of other things that could cause affliction that have no relation to the current pandemic.

Governor ordered restrictions, if any, that will be placed upon you, our faculty and staff, and our school.

The plans that are being made by the Plano Independent School District and other local schools for next school year.

What would I like to see happen next school year?

COVID-19 in the history books.

Faith Lutheran School of Plano safely back to pre-Covid-19 normal operations.

While I don’t know, what will the school be doing to anticipate a plan for next Fall?

I have been reviewing information (and in some cases, contributing to that information) from several primary sources: Texas Education Agency, Texas Association for Private Schools, the school administrators of the Consortium for Classical Lutheran Education, and the Texas District LCMS Office of School Ministry.

We will be looking for government-mandated orders from the Governor of Texas and/or local officials over the summer months. If they come, it would be helpful for planning purposes that they come sooner rather than later.
The FLS Board of Christian Education has assembled a Continuity Planning Committee whose task it will be to establish a plan forward for the 2020-2021 school year.

The plan for next school year is really the plan for every school year: to pursue classical Lutheran education in the safest, most reasonable fashion that we are able.

I invite you to send your thoughts and comments about next school year to me.

Part and parcel to any plan will include your input and will be communicated to you in the best possible way.

So, there’s much I don’t know. What do I know?

I know that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
I know that changes in life often cause you and me to forget the Lord’s unchanging promises and His holy and gracious will. When we are troubled by uncertainties concerning the future or the inability to control the circumstances and events of our lives, we are to be reminded of the steadfastness of the Lord in keeping His Word of promise.

In the midst of “I don’t know” Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. In Jesus, once crucified and forever living, you and I will stand secure.

He is risen, indeed! Alleluia! Amen!

In Christ,
Rev. Stephen W. Kieser, headmaster
