Faith Lutheran School of Plano provides a classical Lutheran education for students in Pre-school though grade twelve. The school has come a long way since its beginning as a small preschool in 1971.
The first FLS logo – featuring our mascot lion, a shield and a cross – is familiar to many and has become a well-recognized part of our school’s identity.
2016 brings the introduction of a new logo for Faith Lutheran School…a logo that once again prominently features a shield.
Many schools have some kind of shield emblem, but in this case, the shield has a special connection to the school. It is the “shield of faith,” which St. Paul encourages us to take up, that we may extinguish the fiery darts of the Evil One (Eph. 6:16). In front of the shield is a cross—specifically, a passion cross. Its pointed arms remind us of the nails and spear that pierced our Lord when he made atonement for our sins. On the cross is found a Bible, whose open pages contain the school’s initials. It is here in the Word of God that all Christian education should be centered.
The new FLS logo shield shape echoes the shape of the original lion logo, yet its updates encompass the heart of who we are and what we do at Faith Lutheran School. The lion (who has received a slight update to match the new FLS school logo) will remain our sports mascot and will be seen on sports jerseys and in our sports programming.
For Faith Lutheran School of Plano, this is not “out with the old, in with the new,” but an update of our school logo and sports mascot look to reflect both our history and also the mission of our school….that we may present everyone complete in Christ.
