Grades 1 - 5 Curriculum

Students in grades 1-4 are in the grammar stage of learning. They are able to learn new facts quickly and easily, they are generally eager to please, and they are curious. During these years our goal is to impart the basics of reading, writing, and mathematics. We teach phonics, require them to memorize facts including addition and multiplication tables, Bible verses, dates, and grammar rules, and we begin training in logic, Latin, and study skills.

Late in fourth grade or sometime during fifth grade most students begin to make the transition from the grammar stage to the logic stage. They increasingly ask "Why?" and are able to understand the reasons they are given. During this time our goal is to teach them the processes and procedures used to acquire knowledge and truth.
