The best educators are life-long learners. These educators live the life they hope to pass on to the students entrusted to their care. They are curious and wonder. They wrestle with ideas that are foreign to them.
They think about things that are good, true and beautiful. They are the Lord’s servants. They are all of that and more. The best educators do all of this while at the same time being firmly established in Jesus Christ. I am convinced that the faculty of Faith Lutheran School of Plano is the best of the best.
Yesterday, the faculty and I were up before the crack of dawn. With coffee and papers to grade in tote, we left the school parking lot at 6 a.m. and headed for Brenham, located Washington County – the “Birthplace of Texas.” Why were we up so early? Was it simply to get a glimpse of the full moon? No. We went to a TX Classical Lutheran Education Conference.
The day was filled with prayer, hymn-singing and preaching.
We heard from educator, author and national speaker, Cheryl Swope of St. Genevieve, IL. Cheryl reviewed curriculum and curricular resources. She addressed pedagogical matters and teaching diverse learners. She encouraged us to confess the Christian faith and to love the children entrusted to our care during the school day. We also heard from teachers in other schools. Miss Newton was one of our presenters. She shared a plan to teach middle school children scientific thought through investigating the writing of the some of the world’s greatest scientists. All in all, it was a fantastic day.
We got home last night about 9 p.m. After a full 15-hour day, every one of them was up and ready to go bright and early this morning.
I consider myself richly blessed to labor side-by-side with these men and women. They are my friends. They encourage me. They are my children’s teachers. They are your children’s teachers too. Faith Lutheran School of Plano is richly blessed by the Lord’s work through them. I thank God for these Lutheran educators.
